Mytilene, Greece: Training seminar on the importance of lifelong learning as a factor to ensure social cohesion

The Agenda is part of an awareness-raising and education European program based on the importance of lifelong learning as a main factor to ensure social cohesion. It follows the basic guidelines of the new programming period 2014-2020 and it aims to improve the quality and efficiency of education and training of adults.

Through networking and cooperation with employers, social partners and civil society, it seeks to offer a second chance – a step forward for population groups with lower skills, as well as to increase participation in Adult Education.

Key issues of the program are:

a) Facilitating access to education and increasing participation in lifelong learning
b) The upgrading of knowledge, skills and competencies of disadvantaged groups
c) Improved quality in training and education
d) The decentralization – networking (development of learning regions and local learning centers through partnerships and synergies) and other factors based on the needs of each Region and its Municipalities.

The main objective of the 13 conferences (seminars) implemented throughout Greece is to create a network of Adult Education, better coordination among stakeholders and to disseminate the benefits of participation in Adult Education.

The seminar for the North Aegean Region took place on Thursday, 26th (09:00 – 19:30) and Friday, June 27th 2014 (9:00 to 14:30) in Mytilene (Heliotrope Boutique and Resort Hotel). It was a very fruitful action with a great number of headmasters, teachers and other citizens successfully participating in the theoretical, as well as the practical part. The seminar was also attended by representatives of the Ministry, the Municipality, the Region, local Associations, the Chamber, etc.

The Regional Directorate of Primary and Secondary Education in the North Aegean was represented by the Regional Administrator as well as other members of the EDUGLOCAL team.
